What is Virechana
Virechana is the purgative treatment. It cleans the digestive tract including small intestine, liver, gall bladder and pancreas. To eliminate pitta and other toxins, it works in a downward direction. Virechana eliminates harmful toxins from blood also. It treats many disorders like chronic headaches, urinary problems, skin diseases and allergies. Herbs and medication induces the purging process and cleans the entire system.
How does this work?
Every single thing in this universe is composed of the Pancha mahabhuta( five basic elements of the universe).
They are:
- Prithvi – Earth
- Ap – Water
- Tej – Fire
- Vayu – Wind
- Aakash – Space
Drugs used for Virechana are Prithvi and Ap panchamahabhuta (earth and water) predominant. They have adhobhagahara property, ie, they propel the doshas in the downward direction. After procedures like oleation( use of substances like ghee, oil, etc) and perspiration, the vitiated doshas reach the kostha, ie, the alimentary canal. From here, due to the properties of the Virechana drugs, the doshas are eliminated through the anal route. Improve the efficiency of the sensory organs and healing of your skin.

- Bleeding from rectum or lung cavities with a Prolapsed rectum

- Acute fever with a thin or weak body
- Severe, chronic constipation with hard stool causing Ulcerative colitis.
